The Taming of the Shrew
by William Shakespeare additional material by Rob Creer & Ross Brown

Produced & Directed by Rob Creer.

William Shakespeare's wicked comedy of the battle of the sexes, The Taming of the Shrew is the story of how Petruchio, a money-grubbing wife hunter, transforms the aggressive and bad-tempered Kate into an obedient, honey-tongued trophy wife with many farcical twists along the way. The Taming of the Shrew is one of Shakespeare's earliest comedies itís also one of his most controversial and often adapted plays.

The Taming of the Shrew has been the inspiration for Cole Porter's Broadway smash Kiss Me Kate and the hit Romcom '10 Things I Hate About You'. One of the most famous film versions of the play is Franco Zeffirelli's Academy Award nominated film starring Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton.

The Taming of the Shrew has now been given a fresh new twist by the award winning Sodbury Players.

Our production is part of The Royal Shakespeare Company's (RSC) Open Stages Project, celebrating amateur theatre. Sodbury Players are one of only 86 selected community theatre groups to receive support and RSC mentoring for the project.

Production dates : 14-17th May 2014
